The first little glimpse of the gameplay and some new details about the next Need for Speed game have been leaked online. It has been known for some time that EA is planning to release a new Need for Speed game in 2022. It was expected to enter the racing series in 2021, but it has been delayed by a year so that developer Criterion can help DICE develop from Battlefield 2042. Unfortunately, the shooter has gotten it wrong with critics and has spent the past 10 months trying to rebuild itself into something fans will appreciate, with varying degrees of success. However, Criterion is back in action on a new Need for Speed game and new details are pouring in.

The footage shows a blue car launching itself into the air while moving pairs such as wings, skull and blue flames appear around the car. The car hit a wall causing a distorted image for a brief moment. All of this tracks with earlier reports that the game will feature “anime” elements and be a bit more colorful than previous titles. The leaker went on to note that the game is aimed at a new generation of Need for Speed fans, even going so far as to simplify upgrade systems for a younger audience. EA still expects veterans to be interested in the game.
With about 4 months remaining in 2022, EA has yet to properly reveal the new Need for Speed game. Some fans expected the reveal at Gamescom 2022, but EA didn’t show up. As of now, it remains to be seen what will happen from the game. One would expect EA to position Need for Speed as a big release for the holiday game, but the lack of marketing suggests otherwise. Only time will tell what EA has in store for racing fans, but we hope we don’t have to wait too long.
